• The Regional Government invites families to discover the Christmas installation 'The Wonderful Winter Path' at the Gaiás Center.

Galician designer Ana Inés Jabares-Pita transforms the Gaiás Museum into a paradise of snow globes and light that showcase the landscapes and monuments of the Camiño de Santiago de inverno.

‘O Maravilloso Camiño de Inverno” at the City of Culture is an installation that transports us to the Jacobean Route, crossing a forest of light populated by giant and small snow globes that contain landscapes, monuments, and emblematic cities of the Camino.

To honor the commemoration of the Xacobeo 21-22, Jabares-Pita aimed to merge Christmas with the Camino de Santiago and found in the Winter Path the common element to start from. This route that pilgrims usually used to avoid the snows of Cebreiro was her inspiration to build a winter paradise at the Gaiás.

Families will find in the museum's hall human-scale snow globes containing different landscapes, monuments, and cities of this route, which enters Galicia through Ponferrada and continues following the natural course of the Sil River through the region of Valdeorras, the south of the province of Lugo, and Deza until reaching Compostela.

'The Wonderful Winter Path' proposes a magical journey for children that plays with light and scales, from the giant to the tiny, and also invites them to solve the puzzle of identifying the different stages of the Camino.

The designer confesses that the greatest challenge she faced in creating 'The Wonderful Winter Path' was the space of the Gaiás Center itself. Not only because of the differences compared to a theater or auditorium but also because of the grandeur of Eisenman's architecture, which she assures must be understood and adapted to because competing with it is impossible. Also, the preliminary documentation work was very exhaustive, as there was no specific text or music as a reference to start from. However, she claims to be very satisfied with the result and looks forward to being able to repeat experiences like the one offered by the City of Culture more often, working outside of theaters.
